The Bead of Kali.

I don't do that many stories for children. I think it's because I have more fun writing to the child in adults, because they're not expecting it. With children, you have to be very clear & very concrete & it's harder to make fun of the strange things you see in the world. Because to a child, it's all the same. The sunlight & the smell of auto exhaust & the iridescent dragonflies at the shore of the lake & neighbors who start yelling at their kids at 8 am every morning. It's all part of the world & there is no better or worse. Big people, who have a few more years experience with absurdity & unconsidered beliefs, are more gratifying to mess with. At least for me.

This is a story for children, though. It's a story about happiness. See what you think...
