Old Prom Photos

I happened on a site filled with old prom photos. Slightly yellowed & Polaroid-garish. The boys all looked a little shell-shocked & the girls (mostly) all had the look of female praying mantises. Especially if you can imagine a praying mantis in polyester sateen & big puffy sleeves.

I admit I may have some bias here, since I was in the male role & I was so scared of my first prom date that afterwards I never gave her a copy of our pictures & I never really talked to her again. FOR THE ENTIRE TWO YEARS BEFORE WE MOVED. (OK, so maybe this IS a view through anxiety-tinted glasses...)

Thanks Brian, for a round of deep belly laughs! You are a stitch!!!

I didn't really go to the prom, cuz my school was so huge, but the music nerds I hung out with kind of had our own little "prom bash". I couldn't find a single pretty prom dress that fit busty me, so I wore a rather grannyish brown "Gunne Sax" dress that had high necked lace. About as unsexy as you can get, but that didn't stop my prom date from trying to seduce me. He was my best friend. We'd tried dating but I didn't like how flirty he was with all the other girls. I don't think I ever saw him after that. At the 30-year reunion I heard from one of his other best friends that he is gay.

That is SO funny, mame! I love how reunions put a lot of our past in such clear perspective...

with love, Brian

Do share the website with us Brian, it sounds like it would be worth some good laughs.
